Eclipses in Astrology

Eclipses are interesting phenomena in the sky. The eclipse is caused by a shadow passing across the Sun or the Moon. Astronomically speaking when the Sun, the Moon and the Earth are all in line with the Moon or the Earth at the center; a Solar or Lunar eclipse takes place respectively. The most interesting fact about the eclipse is that in reality we are not able to see Rahu and Ketu (north and south node) as we are able to see other planets. But on eclipse day we are able to see them. On the day of eclipse the energy of these celestial bodies is enormous and very powerful. Another interesting fact about that on the Eclipse day all these three planets Sun, Moon and Earth appear equal in sizes. Eclipses are indications of a change for better or worse but more importantly they indicate the end of one cycle and the beginning of a new one. Rahu and Ketu can cause eclipses and this is one of the main reasons they were regarded as bad. There are two types of eclipse: solar and lunar eclipse. The Eclipse happens many times in a year and each one has a different meaning astrologically.

Solar Eclipses Astrology

The Solar eclipses happen on New Moon day. When the Moon moves between Earth and Sun and all the three planets are in one line. The Moon's shadow travels over the Earth's surface and blocks out the Sun's light as seen from Earth. During the Solar Eclipse day the deadly silence and disturbance of birds and animals made them fear that the end of life is coming. As the dark shadow of the Moon engulfed the Sun, it appeared as if a demon was swallowing it. An eclipse is always a portent for some change to come. It's a kind of  divine warning. The Sun sheds its light for a moment and exposes the shadow of the Moon which is Rahu, and when Rahu is revealed, our hidden side comes to the surface. An unusual aspect of our consciousness comes out, highlighting different aspects of life.

Lunar Eclipses Astrology

Lunar eclipses only happen on Full Moon. When the Earth moves between Moon and Sun, and all the three planets in a one line. The impact of a Lunar Eclipse is felt immediately and it creates a greater disturbance on feelings, which is felt instantly. The Lunar Eclipse highlights a specific event, creates a situation and it usually all happens within the month.

Eclipses considered as bad omens. Day of eclipse should be avoided for important new beginnings in material areas like starting a new business, getting married, approaching your boss for a promotion, or proposing to your girlfriend. Eclipses are good for introspection, meditation, cleaning house, letting go of old baggage, spending some quiet time, and spiritual pursuit. Then the eclipse might indicate a positive outcome.

Astrological impact of Eclipse on Birth Chart:

The astrological house in which the eclipse takes place will usually become sensitized for up to many months. If the eclipse falls on the person's natal Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or ruler of the Ascendant, or any planet within 15° of an eclipse will feel its influence and will have a powerful effect on that person’s life. The Nakshatra in which an eclipse falls will also give a clue to its effects.

To understand what the eclipse is doing for you personally, you want to see what are your planets are being impacted. The eclipse highlights a specific area of your life and brings it into your consciousness. It can be either good or bad. Eclipse on the natal Sun, representing the soul, power authority and life purpose and and can trigger your life purpose. Which can be accelerating individuality, purpose and drive. If an eclipse is near your Ascendant or its ruler, it indicates a change in personality and as a result change in life. If the Mercury are significators of the mind and intellect, it may affect intellectually. If it connects to your Mars, it could make you aggressive, and may make you feel competitive or make you want to get in a fight. Any planet can be involved in being eclipsed. And eclipses on other planets usually have an impact on the houses they rule in your chart. e. g. If Venus ruled your 2nd and houses then an eclipse on Venus would highlight issues with money and relationship with spouse. Signs of the eclipse also give indication in which area of life is affected.

It is important to be safe when viewing an eclipse because on the day of eclipse the energy level of the Sun and Moon is very high on the earth because they are in one line. So never look at the Sun directly because solar radiation can damage your eyes.

People born on the day of Eclipse: Can energize the birth planets and their life. These people have enormous energy and can be fearless and independent and possess very strong qualities. Their fate is beyond their control.

Other significance of eclipse:

At the time of the eclipse, people bathe in the sacred rivers. They do charitable acts. They give cows, money and gold. The day after the eclipse they feed the poor and the Sadhus. After the eclipse they clean their houses, vessels, etc., and take a bath before they start cooking.

On eclipse time because Sun rays are not coming to earth most of the cooked food turns into poison. So One should not take food during the eclipse and one should eat food before 3 or 4 hours before the eclipse begins so that food should by then have been digested before the eclipse begins. One should take food only after seeing the Sun or the Moon free from the Eclipse.

Pregnant women should not see the Sun or the Moon during the time of the eclipse because of intense dark rays of Sun which can cause damage to the unborn baby and If they do the child born may have some kind of defect. People should avoid sensual activity on the day of the eclipse, for the same reason.

At this time of eclipse one should take great care in avoiding bleeding, stings, bites from poisonous insects or animals because these may have dreadful results. Even an earthworm has a poisonous effect when it bites one during an eclipse.

Spiritual practice can give a great amount of benefit on the eclipse day. Those who do chanting (japa) at the time of the eclipse derive great benefits. The effect of chanting ( japa) and on the day of eclipse increase many fold compared to any other normal day because the Sun, Moon and Earth are in the same alignment. Satsang, bhajan and kirtan during the eclipse gives relief from the suffering of humanity and also of the individual bad planets in the birth chart by receiving the blessings of the Gods. If you cannot understand many things of this mysterious universe then, have faith in the words of wise people and follow them.

Types of Eclipse Astrology

Solar Eclipses Astrology:

Total solar eclipse: Occurs when the Moon completely covers the Sun, and the dark silhouette of the Moon completely obscures the intensely bright light of the Sun. Allowing the much fainter Sun to be visible.

Partial solar eclipses: Can occur when the Sun and Moon are not exactly in line and the Moon only partially obscures the Sun.

Annular eclipses: An annular eclipse occurs when the Sun and Moon are exactly in line, but the apparent size of the Moon is smaller than that of the Sun. Hence the Sun appears as a very bright ring surrounding the dark disk of the Moon.

Hybrid eclipses: A hybrid eclipse shifts between a total and annular eclipse. At certain points on the surface of Earth it appears as a total eclipse. Whereas at other points it appears as annular. Hybrid eclipses are rare.

Lunar Eclipses Astrology:

Total lunar eclipses: Occur when the Earth's shadow obscures all of the Moon's visible surface.

Partial lunar eclipse: A partial lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth moves between the Sun and Moon but the three planets do not form a straight line and some portion of the Moon moves into the darkest.

Penumbral lunar eclipses: A penumbral lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth moves between the Sun and Moon but the three planets do not form a perfectly straight line. It means the Moon still receives some Sunlight.

Planetary Aspect in Astrology

In Vedic astrology every planet aspects from where it is placed in the house.  Aspects show how a planet spreads its influence on where it aspecting houses or planets in the chart. The Sanskrit word for aspect is drishti (glance). The planets look at each other or house and they affect different areas of life according to their nature. In this way they share their nature. To understand this first we need to understand the planetary nature and what they represent and what effect they have in our life.

Sun: Sun is the ultimate power, Sun is pure light and Sun is the mild malefic planet.  When the Sun aspect to another planet it clarifies and illuminates the planets or houses by its light and shows the truth and what is righteous.

Moon: Moon is conscious, mind, and emotions. Moon wants bonding and wants to be peaceful. Moon aspects to other planets or houses bring clingingness but confusion due to emotional longing and a desire to merge.

Mars: Mars is anger, conflicts, individualism, and excitement. Mars is a separative planet due to its individual nature. Mars aspect to another planet activates and excites but also leads to conflict based on individual power and struggles.

Mercury: Mercury is intellectual, communication, and stimulation. The Mercury aspect to another planet  brings a sense of curiosity, stimulation, and skill but is also unfocused and over intellectual things.

Jupiter: Jupiter is wisdom, generosity, happiness, and  hope. The Jupiter aspect to other planets brings graciousness and accommodation but will exaggerate and distort based on hopes or disappointments.

Venus: Venus is love, desire, happiness, sensuality, beauty, balance, and etiquette. Venus aspects to other planets bring beauty, kindness and manners but also strong desires.

Saturn: Saturn is restriction, delay, and determination. Saturn aspects to other planets it brings restriction, commitment, delays seriousness and determination and also fear, worry and anxiety.

How will you understand the aspect?

Moon is the mind that rules “peace and connection”. Moon rules over the psychology of the person. The planets most strongly influence the Moon by either conjunction or aspect, then it will show how the person will perceive the world and act.

When the Sun influences the Moon by conjunction it causes the Moon combust. The combust Moon affects the entire psychology of the person. The person with combust Moon has a difficult time feeling peaceful, patient and receptive to what life has to offer them.

When the Sun aspect the Moon is different from conjunction. This aspect gives a strong mental outlook and the person is emotionally strong. The personality becomes more strong, unilateral, unaffected by others. It's just like your soul (Sun) and consciousness (Moon) are looking at each other.

When Mars influences the Moon by conjunction or aspect it shows logical thinking. It has strong mental concepts or right and wrong thinking and is very active in external activities. Which exhausts the person physically and psychologically.

When Mercury influences the Moon by conjunction or aspect it shows the native interested in  learning new skills or gathering more information, but it also leads to emotional stress, neurotic criticising, and anxiety to the person.

When Jupiter’s influence the Moon by conjunction or aspect it shows that the person has more faith, optimism and philosophical nature. But it also leads to unrealistic ideas and trying to rise above things, which is not feasible in this materialistic world.

When Venus’s influence the Moon by conjunction or aspect it makes a person more worldly. The person is pleasure seeking, pleasing others, courtesies and mannerful behavior.  But it also leads to too much sensual indulgence and interest in worldly matters. Which all ultimately drain energy.

When Saturn’s influence the Moon by conjunction or aspect.  It shows controlling the feelings and the external environment by building walls of protection. Resulting in fatigue, depression and loneliness.

The planetary aspects:

All of the planets in the same house and in the 7th (opposite) house will aspect each other. However, in addition to these aspects, the outer planets Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn have special aspects. Special Aspects of outer planets counted  forward manner

Saturn aspects the 3rd and 10th houses forward.

Jupiter aspects the 5th and 9th houses forward.

Mars aspects the 4th and 8th houses forward.

The outer planets are giving the “one way” aspect to another.

When Mars, Saturn, or Jupiter aspects a planet with one of their special aspects they "see" the planet but the planet does not see them. In other words, the influence is one-sided or unilateral. E.g. Mars casting its special aspect influences the other planet, but the other planet does not influence Mars.

There are two exceptions to this rule:

1. If Mars, Jupiter, or Saturn is in the sign ruled by the planet they are casting their special aspect on, then both planets influence each other (there is no unilateral influence). For example, if Mars is in Cancer and the Moon is in Libra, then Mars casts its special aspect on the Moon. But because Mars occupies the sign ruled by the Moon, it is also influenced by the Moon, because it resides in the Moon sign, they mutually influence each other.

2. The second exception is less common and unique: Since Mars aspects four forward and Saturn four backward (it means 10th forward aspect of Saturn). If Mars is 4 houses behind from Saturn, then they mutually aspect each other. e.g. Mars is in Scorpio and Saturn is in Aquarius. In this case, they influence each other equally. When Mars, Saturn, or Jupiter aspect to another planet unilaterally by special aspect, then their influence is more powerful than when they occupy the same (conjunction) or opposite (7th aspect) house as the planet. The special aspects of these three planets create unique circumstances where one planet can have a major effect upon another planet. Since every planet is the owner or lord of specific houses, the influence of special aspects extends to the houses ruled by the target planet. For example, if Saturn special aspects the Moon, and the Moon is the lord of the 10th house, then the career will be delayed, impeded, or in some way diminished by Saturn's special aspect on its lord.

Many Vedic astrologers assign Rahu and Ketu the same aspects as Jupiter – 5th and 9th house aspect.

However Rahu and Ketu have no planetary aspect. The Sanskrit word for aspect is “drishti”, which means “look” or “glance”. Essentially, the planets should have a certain light and through that light their influence gets spread. But Rahu and Ketu are shadows of the Moon that move and make their appearance. In order to aspect or see there must be light but they do not emit light. Because Rahu and Ketu don’t have light, therefore they don’t aspect like other planets. However they Aspect ‘’sign (Rashi)’’wise. e.g. If Rahu is in Gemini sign (rashi) and Gemini sign ruled by Mercury therefore Rahu aspect Mercury, and the houses which Mercury rule. If Rahu is conjunct with Jupiter and Sun then it aspects Jupiter and Sun.

Remedy of full Moon Astrology

Remedy of full Moon Astrology

Some tips To Use The Strong Energy Of The Full Moon ( Two Days Before And After it )

Full Moon energy can be good for you only if you use it right. It can increase the level of your positive energy, but it can also stir your emotions …

The Full Moon brings an enormous amount of energy and therefore it’s better for you to stay calm. Otherwise, it won’t have a positive effect on you.

Everything that happens in your body, mind and spirit will be enhanced during the full moon. If you are a little mad, you will get even madder. If you are happy, you will be happier. This energy is very strong and you need to give it the right directions.

The following advice (for two days before and two days after the full moon) will help you properly use its energy.

1. Refrain.

Do not get into arguments, discussions, quarrel – just don’t get angry. Full Moon is a time to be quiet, to find your peace, to let go of some things. Take a deep breath and forgive others who did wrong with you.

If you can’t avoid discussing an important matter, at least make an effort to do it at least two days after the Full Moon. Everything that happens now will be overemphasized. Therefore, try to maintain balance and good energy.

2. Think Positive.

We should always think positively, especially during a Full moon. Just do not overdo it, because during this period everything is amplified, and your positive thoughts can multiply to the point that you lose a realistic view of everything around you.

Just five minutes of positive thoughts a day is quite enough to “get through” it. For example, you can write a letter to the Universe expressing gratitude for everything you have. You can stand before a mirror and give yourself a compliment, or can walk and appreciate the beauty of your surroundings.

3. Let your imagination run wild.

Imagine that all your dreams are coming true. The period of the full moon is the perfect time for improving this technique. Think about your goals and put them all on paper. Also, you can use the strong flow of positive energy to create your wish list.

Write them down on small colorful pieces of paper and pin them on a board. The more cheerful, colorful and picturesque you make it, the better. All that time you spent daydreaming of meeting your goals, will only help them realize faster because of the energy inflow brought by the Full Moon.

4. Meditate.

You can meditate alone or in a group. Since the Full Moon pours so much energy into us, meditation will be of great help to stay calm.

5. Send some good energy to those who need it.

When the strongest full moon energy wave passes , send some good energy, forgiveness and kindness to your friends, family, colleagues, and even strangers.

Send some peaceful energy to the people who are suffering, who are hungry, who are affected by war…Make sure the energy that you are sending comes from the heart.

Solar Return (Annual Chart) Astrology

The Solar return chart is the most commonly used of the planet Sun return in the chart. Solar returns are an ancient technique, used by both sidereal and tropical astrologers. Since the Sun represents both the vitality and the light of the self, it is an important thing to know about Solar return of the year.

The Solar return in horoscope is a chart constructed for the time the Sun returns to its exact natal position (degree and sign). This will be within 24 hours of the birth time each year. The Solar return chart in the horoscope of the Sun’s return, a return to the sense of identity, purpose, another initiation into the experience of the self.  The chart will identify important areas of concern for the self during the upcoming year. Each Solar return chart will represent a year and be in effect from one birthday to the next.  In a sense it is a ‘natal’ chart for one year, providing a snapshot of the planet's patterns that will show over the next year. Therefore it can be delineated much the same as a natal chart.

Solar returns can be used as a secondary chart to examine planetary patterns and possibilities for any particular year. Once you have your Solar return charts laid out in sequential order from birth, then you can examine the angles and planets to see how they are placed in the chart. Once you have studied each of the planets in the Solar return you will be more confident with how to approach that particular year.

How to Read  Solar Returns:

In order to use Solar returns effectively, you need to  generate the solar return horoscopes  using your natal birthplace. The Solar return chart suggests the atmosphere, themes and spheres of importance in the individual life over the coming year. The Solar return chart is operational from one birthday to the next.

When beginning to understand how to effectively use the Solar return chart. Following are the steps to read the Solar return chart.

1. The house Occupied the Sun:  The Sun is definitely the most important planet to consider in the interpretation of Solar return. Its house position shows where one may express the self creativity that takes place during that particular year. It also denotes the area of greatest recognition as well as the area the individual will identify, success, honour, pride and accomplishments for that particular year. Let's say your Sun falls in the 12th house on Solar return, it means you will be recognized in foreign land and there will be some connection with foreign countries. However one must be careful of seeking status because the 12th house is the house of loss and there is a tendency to lose one’s identity. Any planet conjunct with the Sun is very important for that year. That planet describes the nature of activities, events, conditions that unfold in the coming year.

2. The Ascendant: The Ascendant of the Solar return chart symbolizes what is rising to the surface of our personality during the coming year. Each year the Solar returns symbolizes an aspect of the personality, which is in focus or may even be reborn over the course of the year.

A planet in the ascendant is also very important to note since this energy may be something that the individual needs to see and relate with during the coming year. It is the part of the personality rising to the surface and it will demand attention and direction for the coming period. Depending on the nature of the planet the energy will influence their personality. Any planets in close relation to the Sun and ascendant affect the nature of how one perceives reality. How one can project the self and what one can consider important in dealing with others. The behaviour and activities which one expresses in life during that year is also important.

3. The Moon in the Solar Return: The Moon is associated with change and fluctuation according to its house position. The Moon reflects the individual's emotional nature during the Solar return year. The type of feelings you have during that year and it can be shown by the Moon's sign, position, and aspects. The Moon's sign can be important because it is indicative of what the individual feels during the year. The house position of the Moon indicates where you may be aware of new psychological and emotional developments.

4. Planets near or in the 10th house (MC) will signify what is brought to public attention during the year. These planets will seek to be expressed through the career goals. Career during the coming year and needs conscious attention directed towards it.

5. Reading of other planets: Generally speaking, the planets in the Solar return chart are read the same as in the natal chart. Each planet of the Solar return chart needs to be considered its sign, house position, aspects, and any other important considerations (retrogradation, combust etc.). The house position indicates where the energies focused for the year. For e.g. Mercury  sign interpretations in the Solar return chart symbolizes what type you are thinking during the coming year.

6. The Lunar Nodes: The Lunar Node highlights the areas of that year that are destined to occur no matter what you do. The Nodes can give hints of which areas of your life are attracting the fates attention in the coming year.

In the Solar Return chart (Varshphal), the planets laid differently from the natal chart as they are considered in the context of that particular year, not for the lifetime.
