Planets transit in the Month of October
In the month of October Mars is combust till it changes sign on October 21st. Combustion is where the planet gets very close to the Sun. When Mars combusts, it is a frustrated and angry energy. Combustion of Mars shows that we want to work hard to change and to improve on certain things, but we can get kind of fired up in this process. So watch out your frustrations and your anger during this period.
Mercury retrograde in Libra and conjunct Mars in Virgo: The last Mercury retrograde period of 2021, begins September 26th and continues until October 18th. The retrograde Mercury conjunct Mars and Sun in Virgo on October 2nd. Mercury is the planet of communications and rational thinking going backwards and therefore causing problems with communications and making decisions. Mercury retrograde periods are known for creating a lot of confusion. At the beginning of this Mercury retrograde period it's just the usual problems of delays, misunderstandings, mistakes, equipment malfunction and so forth. But then after spending the first several days of its retrograde in Libra, Mercury backs into Virgo sign, where it joins up with its enemy Mars. This is where things get complicated due to the forceful impatience and combative nature of Mars. The annoyance and inconvenience of retrograde Mercury is made much worse for the first three weeks of October. This problematic energy pattern of the planet of rational thinking combines with the planet of action behaving irrationally, haste, aggressive and combating. So this is not good. There's a strong tendency for misunderstanding leading to the argument.
The energy of Mars combined with retrograde Mercury gets a further boost on October 6th at 19 degrees Virgo on New Moon. The New Moon is very important in Hindu Calendar, because it initiates the energy pattern for the coming lunar month. This New Moon is also very important because it exactly conjunct Mars and with retrograde Mercury. So there's strong energy for both action and mistakes. Mercury retrograde continues until October 18th a few days after that Mars leaves Virgo and enters Libra on 21st October and that leaves Mercury alone unaffected by the energy of Mars. Virgo is Mercury's own sign during the last week of the month the planet of rational thinking and reasonable decisions slowly returns to normal forward motion and its significations will return to normal.
Mars changes signs leaving Virgo sign and entering Libra on October 21st. Mars is the planet of force that manifests from the venue of relationship-oriented idealistic Libra sign, that wants to find harmony and balance through compromise. This tends to tame some of the Mars aggression. Still Mars is the planet of action and Libra is a sign of idealism. So the idealists will get a boost from this transit. Also while in Libra, Mars will be influencing Venus during October. Venus is transiting in Mars's sign Scorpio. When Mars moves into Venus's sign Libra they form a parivartana (exchange sign) yoga. An exchange of sign rulers causing the two planets to influence each other. Whenever Mars and Venus form a relationship in any way, it creates a lot of passion, excitement and argument. It only lasts until the end of the month on October 30th. Venus changes signs leaving Scorpio and entering Sagittarius and the yoga with Mars ends.
Venus in Scorpio: Venus changes signs on the 1st day of October leaving Libra sign and entering Scorpio sign. The planet of relationship, balance, and harmony moves on from its own sign where it was happy and enters the sign of its opposite quality ruled by Mars. Scorpio is the sign of manipulation, passion, secrets and hunger for power. So Venus is detrimental in this sign. Venus in Scorpio tends to bring out the downside of Venus which is control, jealousy in relationship, selfishness, and self-indulgence. So watch that in your relationships and your situations in life where you're interacting with others through mutual benefit that could also include business relationships where there's a give and take.
Another most important thing happens and that while Venus is in Scorpio it joins up with South Node Ketu. The South Node of the Moon is one of the eclipse points. Ketu is the significator of past karma and the past in general and it also signifies the non-material dimension. Ketu tends to dissolve things on the material plane. If it is in good dignity, then it gives enlightenment to the person. In Vedic astrology it is said that Ketu acts like Mars in other words it could be destructive. This combination is generally problematic for Venus significations therefore harmony and relationships will suffer and values get distorted. Since Ketu is spiritual in combination with Venus, the planet of love can be good for spiritual devotion. The exact conjunction of Venus with Ketu is on October 9th and the Moon joins in as well, adding more potential for events as it happens. October 9th is the same day that Mars is conjunct with retrograde Mercury. So this day has pretty intense energy.
Both Jupiter and Saturn, are now in the sign Capricorn. Capricorn is the sign of practical goals and tangible results. This is one of Saturn's own signs. So both Saturn and Capricorn significations are strengthened. So this is good for structure, stability, responsibility and duty. Jupiter is the planet of beliefs, wisdom, justice and law. While in Capricorn Jupiter's beliefs are manifesting through the Capricorn sign of practicality. Capricorn is conservative, so conservative beliefs get emphasized. Since Saturn is here too, and Saturn is the significator of persistence. So what it signifies is that people are still clinging to their already formed beliefs till this conjunction is not separate.
Saturn and Jupiter are ending their retrograde periods in October. Saturn's retrograde period is for four and a half months this year. Saturn has been retrograde since may 22nd and will end its retrograde on October 10th. Before and after a planet begins or ends a retrograde it appears to hang stationary in the zodiac. Stationary positions of the planets are considered extra strong for their significations. In the case of slow-moving planets like Saturn or Jupiter the stationary period is for a few weeks. Jupiter's retrograde period is for four months. It went retrograde on June 20th and ended its retrograde on October 18th. Jupiter is retrograde, always reevaluating whether or not our beliefs make sense whether or not we're putting them into practice correctly.
Saturn and Jupiter both turn direct. Saturn goes direct first but then Jupiter also turns direct by October 19th. They're both moving forward. So this means that our vision and purpose which is Jupiter and our commitments and hard work and effort which is Saturn are now both moving forward right at the same time. They've both been retrograde for several months which means our vision and purpose and our duties and commitments have been not moving forwards and again we're going to feel much more aligned to move forward with the things that inspire us and really commit to them.
Sun is going to enter the sign of Libra on October 17th which is the sign of the debilitation of the Sun. Sun will be debilitated in Libra starting and then for the rest of the month. Sun in its debilitated sign means that it's where our compromises and our agreements tend to feel like they weigh on us. Because the Sun is the part of us that wants to act with consistent vision and purpose. That's why Sun exalted in Aries sign, where we just trust that vision and inner voice and we act on it. Those are the things we're supposed to be acting upon. Saturn is debilitated in Aries. So when we just instinctively act out of our fears then there's a lot of problems. But when we instinctively act upon what inspires us then it's good. But in the Libra sign it's completely opposite. The Sun is in Libra thinking too much about its power. So it's like that, is it okay if I'm powerful to shine, it's not gonna upset people I love. Libra is where we're always trying to harmonize and compromising our energy and the Sun is not that kind of energy. The Sun doesn't want anyone permission to shine brightly. In Libra it can bring humility if you already have a powerful Sun in your natal chart. You may not tend to overdo it at times so when it goes through Libra. It allows us to really connect that big vision and purpose with others in a more skillful way.
