In Vedic astrology every planet aspects from where it is placed in the house. Aspects show how a planet spreads its influence on where it aspecting houses or planets in the chart. The Sanskrit word for aspect is drishti (glance). The planets look at each other or house and they affect different areas of life according to their nature. In this way they share their nature. To understand this first we need to understand the planetary nature and what they represent and what effect they have in our life.
Sun: Sun is the ultimate power, Sun is pure light and Sun is the mild malefic planet. When the Sun aspect to another planet it clarifies and illuminates the planets or houses by its light and shows the truth and what is righteous.
Moon: Moon is conscious, mind, and emotions. Moon wants bonding and wants to be peaceful. Moon aspects to other planets or houses bring clingingness but confusion due to emotional longing and a desire to merge.
Mars: Mars is anger, conflicts, individualism, and excitement. Mars is a separative planet due to its individual nature. Mars aspect to another planet activates and excites but also leads to conflict based on individual power and struggles.
Mercury: Mercury is intellectual, communication, and stimulation. The Mercury aspect to another planet brings a sense of curiosity, stimulation, and skill but is also unfocused and over intellectual things.
Jupiter: Jupiter is wisdom, generosity, happiness, and hope. The Jupiter aspect to other planets brings graciousness and accommodation but will exaggerate and distort based on hopes or disappointments.
Venus: Venus is love, desire, happiness, sensuality, beauty, balance, and etiquette. Venus aspects to other planets bring beauty, kindness and manners but also strong desires.
Saturn: Saturn is restriction, delay, and determination. Saturn aspects to other planets it brings restriction, commitment, delays seriousness and determination and also fear, worry and anxiety.
How will you understand the aspect?
Moon is the mind that rules “peace and connection”. Moon rules over the psychology of the person. The planets most strongly influence the Moon by either conjunction or aspect, then it will show how the person will perceive the world and act.
When the Sun influences the Moon by conjunction it causes the Moon combust. The combust Moon affects the entire psychology of the person. The person with combust Moon has a difficult time feeling peaceful, patient and receptive to what life has to offer them.
When the Sun aspect the Moon is different from conjunction. This aspect gives a strong mental outlook and the person is emotionally strong. The personality becomes more strong, unilateral, unaffected by others. It's just like your soul (Sun) and consciousness (Moon) are looking at each other.
When Mars influences the Moon by conjunction or aspect it shows logical thinking. It has strong mental concepts or right and wrong thinking and is very active in external activities. Which exhausts the person physically and psychologically.
When Mercury influences the Moon by conjunction or aspect it shows the native interested in learning new skills or gathering more information, but it also leads to emotional stress, neurotic criticising, and anxiety to the person.
When Jupiter’s influence the Moon by conjunction or aspect it shows that the person has more faith, optimism and philosophical nature. But it also leads to unrealistic ideas and trying to rise above things, which is not feasible in this materialistic world.
When Venus’s influence the Moon by conjunction or aspect it makes a person more worldly. The person is pleasure seeking, pleasing others, courtesies and mannerful behavior. But it also leads to too much sensual indulgence and interest in worldly matters. Which all ultimately drain energy.
When Saturn’s influence the Moon by conjunction or aspect. It shows controlling the feelings and the external environment by building walls of protection. Resulting in fatigue, depression and loneliness.
The planetary aspects:
All of the planets in the same house and in the 7th (opposite) house will aspect each other. However, in addition to these aspects, the outer planets Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn have special aspects. Special Aspects of outer planets counted forward manner
Saturn aspects the 3rd and 10th houses forward.
Jupiter aspects the 5th and 9th houses forward.
Mars aspects the 4th and 8th houses forward.
The outer planets are giving the “one way” aspect to another.
When Mars, Saturn, or Jupiter aspects a planet with one of their special aspects they "see" the planet but the planet does not see them. In other words, the influence is one-sided or unilateral. E.g. Mars casting its special aspect influences the other planet, but the other planet does not influence Mars.
There are two exceptions to this rule:
1. If Mars, Jupiter, or Saturn is in the sign ruled by the planet they are casting their special aspect on, then both planets influence each other (there is no unilateral influence). For example, if Mars is in Cancer and the Moon is in Libra, then Mars casts its special aspect on the Moon. But because Mars occupies the sign ruled by the Moon, it is also influenced by the Moon, because it resides in the Moon sign, they mutually influence each other.
2. The second exception is less common and unique: Since Mars aspects four forward and Saturn four backward (it means 10th forward aspect of Saturn). If Mars is 4 houses behind from Saturn, then they mutually aspect each other. e.g. Mars is in Scorpio and Saturn is in Aquarius. In this case, they influence each other equally. When Mars, Saturn, or Jupiter aspect to another planet unilaterally by special aspect, then their influence is more powerful than when they occupy the same (conjunction) or opposite (7th aspect) house as the planet. The special aspects of these three planets create unique circumstances where one planet can have a major effect upon another planet. Since every planet is the owner or lord of specific houses, the influence of special aspects extends to the houses ruled by the target planet. For example, if Saturn special aspects the Moon, and the Moon is the lord of the 10th house, then the career will be delayed, impeded, or in some way diminished by Saturn's special aspect on its lord.
Many Vedic astrologers assign Rahu and Ketu the same aspects as Jupiter – 5th and 9th house aspect.
However Rahu and Ketu have no planetary aspect. The Sanskrit word for aspect is “drishti”, which means “look” or “glance”. Essentially, the planets should have a certain light and through that light their influence gets spread. But Rahu and Ketu are shadows of the Moon that move and make their appearance. In order to aspect or see there must be light but they do not emit light. Because Rahu and Ketu don’t have light, therefore they don’t aspect like other planets. However they Aspect ‘’sign (Rashi)’’wise. e.g. If Rahu is in Gemini sign (rashi) and Gemini sign ruled by Mercury therefore Rahu aspect Mercury, and the houses which Mercury rule. If Rahu is conjunct with Jupiter and Sun then it aspects Jupiter and Sun.
