Planetary Aspect in Astrology

In Vedic astrology, every planet aspects from where it is placed in the house. Aspects show how a planet spreads its influence on where it aspecting house or planets in the chart. The Sanskrit word for aspect is drishti, “glance”. The planets look at each other or house and they affect different areas of life according to their nature, in this way share their nature. To understand this first we need to understand the planetary nature and what they represent and what effect they have in our life.

Sun Aspect: Sun is the ultimate power, Sun is pure light and Sun is the mild malefic planet. When Sun aspect to another planet it clarifies and illuminates by its heat and show the truth and righteousness.

Moon Aspect: Moon is conscious, mind, and emotions. Moon wants bonding and wants happiness all the time. Moon aspects to other planets bring clingingness but confusion due to emotional longing and a desire to merge.

Mars Aspect: Mars is anger, conflicts, individualism, and excitement. Mars aspect to another planet activates and excites but also leads to conflict based on individual power and struggles.

Mercury Aspect: Mercury is intellectual, communication, and stimulation. Mercury aspect to another planet brings a sense of curiosity, stimulation, and skill but is also unfocused and over intellectual.

Jupiter Aspect: Jupiter is wisdom, generosity, happiness, and hope. Jupiter aspect to another planets brings graciousness and accommodation but will exaggerate and distort based on hopes or disappointments.

Venus Aspect: Venus is beauty, balance, and etiquette. Venus aspects to another planets brings beauty, kindness and manners but also strong desires.

Saturn Aspect: Saturn is restriction, delay, and determination. Saturn aspects another planets it brings seriousness and determination but also fear, worry and anxiety.
How will you understand aspect ? take a example of moon.

Moon is the mind it rules “peace and connection”. Moon rule over the psychology of the native. The planets most strongly influencing the Moon by either conjunction or aspect, will show how the native will perceive the world and act.

Sun Aspect the Moon by conjunction it combust. The combust Moon, affects the entire psychology of the native. The native with a combust Moon has a difficult time feeling peaceful, patient and receptive to what life has to offer.

Sun Aspect the Moon is different than conjunction. This aspect gives strong mental outlook and emotionally strong. The personality becomes more strong, unilateral, unaffected by others. It just like your soul (Sun) and conscious (Moon) are looking each other and helping each others. You are not confused what you want in your life and other people opinion does not affect you, simply you are mentally strong.

Mars Aspect the Moon by conjunction or aspect it show logical thinking, have strong mental concepts or right and wrong thinking and very active in external activities. which exhausts the native physically and psychologically.

Mercury Aspect the Moon by conjunction or aspect it shows the native interested in learning new skills or gathering more information, but it leading to emotional stress, neurotic, criticizing, and anxiety to the native.

Jupiter Aspect the Moon by conjunction or aspect it shows the native have keep more faith, optimism and philosophy, but it leading to unrealistic ideas and trying to rise above things. which is not feasible in this materialistic world.

Venus Aspect the Moon by conjunction or aspect it makes native more worldly and pleasure seeking, leading to sensual indulgence, pleasing others, courtesy and mannerly behavior, but it leading to refining worldly matters, all of which ultimately drain energy.

Saturn Aspect the Moon by conjunction or aspect it shows a controlling the feelings and the external environment by building walls of protection, resulting in fatigue, depression and loneliness.

Many Vedic astrologers assign Rahu and Ketu the same aspects as Jupiter – a 5th and 9th house aspect.

However Rahu and Ketu have no planetary aspect. ‘’Common sense’’ . The Sanskrit word for aspect is “drishti”, which means “look” or “glance”. Essentially, the planets have a certain vision and through that vision their influence gets spread. But Rahu and Ketu are shadows of the Moon that move and make their appearance. In order to aspect or see, there must be light but they do not emit light. Rahu and Ketu don’t have light therefore they don’t aspect according to the light. They Aspect ‘’Sign (Rashi)’’wise e. g. If Rahu is in Gemini sign (rashi), Gemini sign is ruled by Mercury therefore Rahu aspect Mercury, and the houses which Mercury rule. If Rahu is conjunct with Jupiter and Sun it aspects Jupiter and Sun.

The planetary aspects:

All of the planets in the same house ( by conjunction) and to the 7th (opposite) house. However, in addition to these aspects, the outer planets Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn have special aspects. Special Aspects of Outer Planets: (Counting Forward)

Saturn aspects the 3rd and 10th houses forward

Jupiter aspects the 5th and 9th houses forward

Mars aspects the 4th and 8th houses forward

The outer planets are giving the “one way” aspect to another. When Mars, Saturn or Jupiter aspects a planet with one of their special aspects they "see" the planet but the planet does not see them. In other words, the influence is one-sided or unilateral. e.g. Mars casting its special aspect influences the other planet, but the other planet does not influence Mars.

However there are exceptions:

1. If Mars, Jupiter, or Saturn is in the sign ruled by the planet they are casting their special aspect on, then both planets influence each other (there is no unilateral influence). For example, if Mars is in Cancer and the Moon is in Libra, then Mars casts its special aspect on the Moon, but because Mars occupies the sign ruled by the Moon, it is also influenced by the Moon, i. e. They mutually influence each other.

2. The second exception is less common and unique: Since Mars aspects four forward and Saturn four backward, if Mars is four houses behind Saturn, they mutually aspect each other. e.g. Mars in Scorpio and Saturn in Aquarius. In this case, they influence each other equally. When Mars, Saturn, or Jupiter aspect another planet unilaterally by special aspect, their influence is more powerful than when they occupy the same or opposite house as the planet. The special aspects of these three planets are a unique circumstance where one planet can have a major effect upon another planet. Since every planet is the owner or lord of specific houses, the influence of special aspects extends to the houses ruled by the target planet. For example, if Saturn special aspects the Moon, and the Moon is the lord of the 10th house, then the career will be delayed, impeded, or in some way diminished by Saturn's special aspect on its lord.
