Elements and Qualities Astrology
There are two classifications of the Signs of the planets and each Elements and Qualities refer to human behaviour. The Elements, is the basic nature and temperament of a Sign, whereas Qualities shows their manner of expression.
According to the science, the body is considered earthy, feelings are fluid, thoughts often airy and activity animated and energetic.
The four Elements and their corresponding Signs are Fire (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius), Earth (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn), Air (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius) and Water (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces). While the Elements in and of themselves help to describe basic human nature, once combined in our overall astrological chart, they help to define us as a whole and complex Person.
In looking at an individual's astrological chart, the presence of more Air Signs may well indicate a intelligent and thoughtful personality. And if there is absence of water Signs would indicate someone who is not very emotional. The presence of a mix of all of the Elements would be a sign of a well-balanced individual.
In Astrology the placement of planets in sign in birth chart describes a person's attitudes in life and the way they approach life it self. There are three category of the signs and these are are Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable.
The Cardinal Signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.
These four Signs have the qualities to initiate something and their common qualities are action and drive. These signs have initiative and strong motivation to do something. On a project, Cardinal Signs are the people who come up with ideas and get the project moving, but they are not very good at completion.
If someone have Planets in these sign, then that person inclined towards Caridinal energy.
The Fixed Signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.
These four Signs are the who dedicate themselves to seeing projects through to completion. Their common qualities are determination and persistence. These signs are stable and self-reliant. On a project, Fixed Signs are the people who keep a project going and see it through to the end, but they can also be stubborn and inflexible.
If someone have Planets in these sign, then that person inclined towards fixed energy.
The Mutable Signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces.
These four Signs are the flexible in nature and, ready to do an assigned role. Their common qualities are adaptability and changeability. These signs are flexible and versatile. On a project, Mutable Signs adapt easily to changing conditions, and they don't have a particular agenda. Therefore they can be inconsistent in nature.
If someone have Planets in these sign, then that person inclined towards Mutable energy.
Likewise in astrology sign also categorized in elements. Generally they categorized like shown in table. But depending on which planets comes in which element have qualities like that element. For Ex. Venus in aries shows fiery in love and relationship matters, because Venus is the planet of love and relationship and this is how it approach love in Aries Sign.

Taurus Fixed Earth
Gemini Mutable Air
Cancer Cardinal Water
Leo Fixed Fire

Dushtana House Lord (6th, 8th & 12th house) Astrology
In Vedic astrology the "Kaal Purusha" ( zodiac ) is divided into 12 zodiacs. In the zodiac every house has some meaning for life. Depending on the placement of the planet in the house we judge about a person's life.
The zodiac is divided into three sectors.
The 1st to 4th house is evolution from self.
The 5th to 8th house is an evolution from others.
The 9th to 12th house evolution from the world.
And every house started by Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. Planets placed in Dharma houses are considered good and they are 1st, 5th and 9th houses. These houses are considered good. If someone has planets in these houses they are lucky, graceful and wealthy. These houses are wealth giving (Laxmi) houses. Generally these people are wealthy in their life. Having planets in these houses shows that these people fulfilled their duties (dharma) in their past lives and now they have come to enjoy their good karma.
6th, 8th, and 12th houses are considered malefic (Dusthana) houses in astrology. Planets in these houses show difficulty in life. These houses are the most stressful houses in the chart.
The 6th house is the unpleasant house in life. In this house we face most of our challenges about life e. g. debt, diseases, conflicts, enemies, court cases, and service to others. This is the house where we don’t want to deal with or serve others. In this house we mature with time. Therefore this is also called Upachaya house.
The 5th house is the children's house and we are serving our children in the 6th house. We like to serve our children because we love our children most. So if we serve other people like we serve our children we will not make any enemies. This is our nature: we differentiate between people and make enemies. Here is the lesson or evolutionary process of 6th house: look everyone with one eye and serve people. If we develop a serving attitude we hardly make any enemies in our life. Depending on which planets come in the 6th house shows where serving is needed. When the 7th house lord sits in the 6th house it means the person is bound to serve their spouse. If they will not serve their spouse their spouse converts into an enemy. This is the lesson they need to learn in this lifetime and this is not their partner being argumentative but this the lesson for them which they carry from their past lives.
Planets in the 6th house means they need to serve people. This is the evolutionary process of their soul from other people. If they want to progress in their life they must learn to serve people.
Things to do for this house: Awaken your mind. Observe why these unpleasant things are happening with you. You will realize there are so many things related with your own habits, and behavior. Try to change that.
The 8th house is the most dreadful house in astrology. This is the house of change and where we feel most insecure and vulnerable. This house comes after the 7th house. In the 7th house we make relations and we become attached with people. But to progress and to evolve in life we should learn to overcome other people. This is also a very unpleasant house of life. The 8th house represents where you have no control of life. Death, loss of loved ones, murdered, rebirth and transformation of life takes place in this house. 8th house is the evolutionary process of the soul that we can not control many things in our life and we need to surrender in front of time and learn to strengthen our mind, so that we can progress further in life. After overcoming our mental weaknesses, fear and anxiety we can move further in life. We will enter the 9th house which shows higher learning and wisdom. The 8th house is the second liberation (moksha) house, where we try to get libertate (moksha) from others because we suffer in this house.
The 12th house is the other Dusthana house. The 12th house is the most mystical house, where it connects the person to the other dimension of the world. The 12th house which comes after the 11th house. The 11th house represents our highest ambition to do something for the world. But what comes next after achieving everything in life: name, fame, money and we need to let go of all these things eventually, if we want to merge in the universe or want liberation from the world. But this is not easy. Generally we all want liberation but liberation from our unpleasant things not from enjoyable things. But we get moksha, when things are taken away from us both good and bad. Generally when we are fed up with our sad part in our life we want moksha. Is there anyone who wants moksha from happiness in life? I think ‘’no’’. It is very difficult to abandon our happiness to get moksha. If someone has planets in the 12th house they have lost something which is very painful. Letting go is not as easy as we think.
We need to understand that all of these houses give some pain in our life to evolve our soul. Dusthana house means that they take something away from your life. If the 6th lord sitting in the 1st house means it takes your health and makes you sick because the 1st house represents the physical body. When you get sick you are limited to movement and when you are limited movement you have more time to introspect yourselves, and in this process your soul evolves with time.
If the 7th house lord sitting in the 12th house means separation from a partner for any reason.
Therefore when a dusthana lord is sitting in a dusthana house it means it takes away unpleasant things from your life. Therefore it is called Vipareeta Raja Yoga in astrology. Those people who have exchange of 6th, 8th, and 12th lord in these dusthana houses are some way lucky because they have reduced bad effect in their life. Like if the 6th lord in 8th house,it means it takes away some of the unpleasant things like disease or debt. The person is free from all those unpleasant things which are represented by the 6th house..
Life is an evolutionary process. These houses make us evolve and make us mature with time. We all have these house energies somewhere in our life. If there are no planets in these houses then the lord of these houses is somewhere in the birth chart. Because we all need to evolve in some area of life so that we can liberate ourselves from this world and merge in this universe.
The 8th and 12th house teaches us to let go of things. Once you learn how to let go of things which are not in your control you will be at peace and real enjoyment (bliss) starts after this.
